Contact Jimmy's Express Edinburgh by phone

Ring 0131 563 9054. Somebody picks up during opening hours, and it is the same kitchen you can hear in the background. Use it for same-day tables, anything above eight people, catering, or a question that needs an answer before you leave the house.

It is also the number to use if you are running late or something has gone wrong with an order. Voicemail at three in the morning will not be picked up until noon, so if it can wait until then, ring at noon rather than leaving a message at midnight.

For delivery, the apps are quicker than we are. Uber Eats and Deliveroo hold the order, the driver and the fee, so a question about where your food is belongs with them rather than with us. If the food itself is wrong, tell us and we will put that right.

Email, and what happens to it

To contact Jimmy's Express Edinburgh by email, use jimmyexpress888@gmail.com. We aim to reply within 48 hours, which makes it the right channel for catering enquiries, invoices, lost property and anything you want in writing rather than said down a phone line.

That is not the right channel for tonight. If you want a table this evening, ring, because the inbox is not watched during service and an email sent at six may not be read until the next morning.

For catering, put the date, the time, the number of people and a rough budget in the first email. It saves a round trip and gets you a real answer faster. If you are asking about a booking, put the date in the subject line, because the inbox at nine in the morning is a busy place.

Where we are on South Bridge

Jimmy's Express, 45 South Bridge, Edinburgh, Midlothian, EH1 1LL. We are between the Royal Mile and the university, about two minutes up to the High Street and six minutes on foot from Waverley station.

Lothian buses run along South Bridge and stop within a minute of the door, and Border Buses routes pass us on their way in and out of the city. Taxis will know the address. If you are driving, there is on-street parking on Drummond Street and Chambers Street, and it is usually easier after six.

The shopfront is easy to walk past because the street is busy and the sign is not the biggest. Look for the doorway rather than the sign. There is a bus stop within a minute in either direction, and a taxi rank at the station if you are arriving with luggage.

Opening hours, every day of the week

We open at noon and close at half nine, Monday to Sunday, including bank holidays. The kitchen finishes with the restaurant, so a table at nine is possible but a table at twenty past nine is not.

There is no closed day, which surprises people who assume a family restaurant takes a Monday. It does not. If the door is open, the wok is on.

One thing about booking emails outside hours. If you book for a time when the restaurant is shut, from half nine at night until noon the next day, the confirmation may take a little longer to reach you. Nothing has gone wrong.

If you are planning a late meal, ring before nine to check the kitchen can still take it. Half nine is a real closing time rather than a suggestion, and the last order is earlier than that.

If you are already on your way

From Waverley, come out onto Market Street, up to the Royal Mile and turn right along the High Street until you reach the South Bridge junction. From there it is a couple of minutes down the hill on the left. It is six minutes at a normal walking pace, longer with a suitcase.

From the Royal Mile, look for the corner where the bridge begins and follow it south. The Old Town is behind you, the university is ahead, and we are in between.

If you cannot find the door, contact Jimmy's Express Edinburgh on 0131 563 9054 and we will talk you in from wherever you are standing. We are used to it, because the street is confusing when the Fringe is on.

Common questions

Questions we get asked

What is the phone number for Jimmy's Express?

0131 563 9054, or +44 131 563 9054 from outside the UK. It is answered during opening hours, noon until half nine, every day. The same number handles bookings for more than eight people, catering enquiries and anything urgent on the day.

Can I email to book a table?

You can, but it is slower than the booking form or the phone. Our email is checked regularly rather than constantly, and we aim to reply within 48 hours. For anything within a day or two, ring 0131 563 9054 instead.

How do I get there from Waverley station?

Come out onto Market Street, head up to the Royal Mile, then right along the High Street to the South Bridge junction. The restaurant is a couple of minutes down South Bridge on the left. It is about six minutes on foot, or a short taxi ride.

Where can I park near the restaurant?

There is on-street parking on Drummond Street and Chambers Street, both within a few minutes' walk. It is paid parking and busy during the day, and easier in the evening. Buses are usually the simpler option, with several Lothian routes stopping on South Bridge.

How do I contact you about a delivery order?

Through the app you ordered on. Uber Eats and Deliveroo hold the order, the fee and the driver, so they are the ones who can see where your food is. If the food itself is wrong, tell us as well and we will put it right.
